The Guild:
The earliest record of a meeting of the local Woman's Guild was on 1st November 1918 but it was
not until 1929 that the local branch joined the national movement. The Church of Scotland Guild
within the Church of Scotland invites and encourages women to commit their lives to Jesus Christ
and enables them to express their faith in worship, prayer and action. The Guild meets weekly on
Thursday evenings for 10 weeks between October and December and 10 weeks between January and March.
In 1997/98 the Guild opened its doors to men for the first time and so the name changed from Woman's
Guild to Church of Scotland Guild.
The most important work of the Guild is probably the fellowship provided. Over the years this has
been a great help and source of encouragement to members.
